This thesis is examining the formation of the qizilbash identity and Ottomans view of these communities during the period starting from the middle of the fifteenth century to the middle of sixteenth century, within Ottoman – Safevid relationship. Some of the nomadic Turkmen tribes’ getting close relationship with the Safevid Empire with the identity of qizilbash, confronted Ottoman Empire with qizilbashes in this context. While Shah Ismail, the leader of the Erdebil Sufis, with passion of being Shah had provoked Anatolian qizilbashes against the state; Ottoman Empire, as a matter of being a state took serious precautions against the danger of Qizilbash. Resources of the related period offers us plenty of arguments saying that this fight had been lived within the denominational and belief differences. This study aims at enlightening the diverse and complicated process of the mentioned period, in the light of historical papers to some extent. With a sunni lifestyle stemming from madrasah, nomadic syncreteric belief style and the differences between these two belief and life styles had constituted the basis of the disintegration and the problems. The archive papers which were kept by making no concession to the burocratic principals of Ottoman Empire will lead to new researches and new understandings by handling Yavuz Sultan Selim, in the person of Ottoman Empire and the scientists approach style to the topic with all its unidentified aspects and in an objective way.
