This study is about the political history of Afshars lived in Iran in Safavids era. Afshars’ relationships with Safavid State, in which incidents of Safavid political history they played active role and their rebellions will be discussed during the thesis. In the study, Afshars’ history before Safavids era has been briefly mentioned. Afterwards, the main part of the study comes, in which Afshar individuals and groups played a part in political events of Safavids era have been discussed thereby considering geographies the events occurred. As the method of the study, chronicles accommodated in Safavids era were examined; the name of Afshar was scanned in resources, and among events that name of Afshar was involved, convenient ones with the aim of the study were included the thesis. In addition, chronicles were read with comparative readout method to identify the differences and similarities between resources, and thus, it was aimed with this method to prove the correctness of given information. It was seen that there were Afshars in Iran before Safavid State was established. In period of establishment of the state, a new Afshar migration from Anatolia and Syria toward Iran along with Shah Ismail. Afshars, who were not considerably active under Shah Ismail, begun to appear in political scene in Shah Tahmasb period, and this rise continued in periods of Shah II. Ismail and Shah Muhammad. As to earlier stages of Shah Abbas period, Afshar riots were seen, and Abbas violently quelled these uprisings. After Shah Abbas’s period, Afshars lost their political power in time, and their names became less visible in Safavid resources. Bektash Khan, the most important hero of Afshar uprisings in Shah Abbas era, and his father Veli Khan’s grandsons fought on Safavids side in Shah Hussein period against Afghan and Beluchi communities threatening the state.
